The location of the hotel is great, and is very close to the castle and the royal mile.
The room I stayed in was very small and the Shower temperature would not remain constant and kept going very hot.Sink/Toilet area was tiny.
After seeing previous reviews on this hotel was a bit apprehensive, however, staff could not have been more helpful, bed and room was spotless (dated I agree) but nothing to complain about. One thing that could help would be to improve the entrance area to the hotel.
It situated really exellent
The price should be a little bit smaller
Location near other facilities
Carrying my suitcase up two storeys. No working tv in the room. Very noisy extractor fan in the toilet
A shabby, noisy dive of a place. The bed was uncomfortable. Banging doors need fixing as the noise reverberates around the building. Standard of cleanliness was poor and strange smells were to be found along the corridors. The whole place needs redecorating and refurbishing. Staff didn't appear focussed on the job of hospitality. At £297 for the room only for three nights this was a rip-off. I haven't experienced the like since a foetid youth hostel in Yugoslav Macedonia in 1984. Get your act together please.
Close to all attractions, city location
Sink wouldn't drain in bathroom, room very small.
Location is fairly central, short walk to Edinburgh castle, Lawnmarket and Royal Mile for shopping. Mac City tour bus passes by the hotel, so no need to spend extra for taxi or bus, just hop on, hop off to go around the city. Could be noisy at nights due to bars beneath and near the hotel, but was not noisy during our stay. We all slept fairly well. We were not allowed to stay in the double room which i booked for, we were upgraded to a family room for a little extra cost. But I think it was a better option, we were able to move around with my kids. Room size is okay.
Not so sound proof as noise from the hallway could be heard in the bathroom, but tolerable.
the location's good, right around the corner from Royal Mile. the old structure of the building means that the noise from the restaurants and pubs don't affect the lodgers much.
i've stayed at the same hotel previously and the TV didn't work then. I thought it was a one-off thing but to my dismay, the TV in my room didn't work again this time. The management should look into this matter because they should not get away with stating that TV is available when it clearly cannot be watched (super bad reception).
Fantastic location, rooms simple but kept clean and comfortable, friendly staff, good rates. Edinburgh is a brilliant city to visit, and the grassmarket hotel provides a good base
Tv was old, had very bad picture, did not have digital channels. Shower was broken, had to hold it in position constantly with one hand.
The hotel is extremely well located. It is in close proximity to the castle and the main shopping areas of Edinburgh such as Princess Street , George Street , and Rose Street. It also is situated next to a variety of eateries and pubs which offer a wide variety of entertainment , including live music most nights ; the hotel is also positioned in the historical 'old town' area of Edinburgh , a stones throw from Grey Friars Church Yard and the National Museum oof Scotland. Finally the hotel is also easy to find - being located on the corner of the Grassmarker and also within walking distance of Waverley train station.
I do not have any 'faults' to raise with the hotel , and would stay there again.
This hotel was comfortable, and the location was perfect for being in the hussle and bussel of things
The locaation was very noisey but iwth us only there for one night we couldn't complain
perfectly placed and always warm and comfortable.
Used to do breakfast in the hotel which was nice, you dont always want a pub environment for breakfast!
Hotel was centrally located which suited the purpose of this trip to Edinburgh. Staff were polite and friendly if a tad informal.
No seats in room. Limited powerpoints in room. No remote control for TV. Due to location in Grassmarket it was rather noisy with revellers until around 02.00hrs and then again with street cleaning from 05.00hrs..so ok if on a stag or hen etc but not ideal if a full nights sleep is required.
tiny room, cardboard walls, disgusting loo and bed should have been dumped. I know it's cheap but i would have spent this in a b&b and been more comfy
The staff, frienldy and welcoming; and good luck to them, because its the only endearing feature.
Our room had no heating and someone had left the windows open when it was -10 degrees outside. There were no curtains above 2 of the 3 windows - the units had fallen off the wall - and the third set of curtains came completely off the wall when I tried to close over. The hotel is in a great location; but you cannot treat customers with contempt by providing disgraceful facilities like this and think you can get away with it because of the location.
